A new option for Ontario women and their families

The Ottawa Birth and Wellness Centre (OBWC) is one of two birth centres in Ontario. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care funds both as part of the province’s two-year exploration of moving uncomplicated births out of hospitals and into lower-cost facilities. Care at the OBWC and its sister centre in Toronto is consistent with the established philosophy of Ontario midwives, benefitting everyone in the community. Women and babies require fewer medical interventions; healthcare workers gain access to new interprofessional training opportunities; and regulators and researchers obtain a place to study the outcomes of midwifery.
