    • Erin Kasparek is a licensed naturopathic doctor welcoming patients in and around the Ottawa area to her general family practice.

      After completing an honours degree in Bio-medical Sciences at the University of Guelph, Erin pursued her naturopathic medical studies at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND), the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND) and holds a license through the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy – Naturopathy (BDDT-N).As a Naturopathic Doctor, Erin’s agenda is to guide individuals through their health goals by thoroughly assessing then addressing the cause of their complaints. Combining a strong knowledge of the power and safety of natural therapies with modern scientific evidence, she assists those looking for alternatives as well as those choosing to combine natural and conventional medicines.Erin’s practice focuses on women’s health, pediatrics, skin conditions, digestive disorders, detoxification, immune support and on lifestyle modification for health promotion.

      During her clinical internship at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic, she developed a special interest in treating pediatric patients. She gained experience co-managing the health and wellness of people living with HIV as well as members of the LGBTTTIQ community while working at the Sherbourne Health Centre.

      Expanding on her skills, Erin has sought out further training as a naturopathic doula, assisting women leading up to, during and after their pregnancies. She is certified in Bioflex low intensity laser therapy for pain, inflammatory and dermatological conditions. In addition to providing traditional acupuncture therapy, Erin may use electro-acupuncture for pain management and musculoskeletal injuries.

  2. Multiples 101: What to expect when you're bringing home multiples

    • Our prenatal course, Multiples 101, offers hints, ideas and true-life stories about coping with newborn multiples. It also offers expectant parents the opportunity to participate in a supportive network with other parents who are expecting twins or more. These classes are not designed to provide medical information and should not be a replacement for hospital prenatal classes. On the other hand, all classes are taught by volunteers who themselves are parents of multiples (and not medical professionals). We provide you with our own experience and share knowledge and ideas to help you deal with multiples.

      Cost per couple: $40 for members and $50 for non-members (includes all relevant materials for the course).

    • Lisa Flanders is a Registered Physiotherapist with specialized training pertaining to pelvic floor physiotherapy. She completed a Bachelor of Arts as well as a Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of Manitoba prior to completing a Master of Science, Physical Therapy at Queen’s University.

      Lisa began her career in orthopedic physiotherapy, which she loves and continues to practice, but had a keen interest in pelvic floor physiotherapy. Following several post-graduate courses on pelvic floor physiotherapy, it became a passion for her. She realized many individuals have common concerns related to pelvic health but are often too embarrassed to seek advice, or are unaware that treatment is available. Her goal is to remove the stigma surrounding pelvic health concerns and work with individuals to identify and optimize their pelvic health and function .

      Lisa sees patients with a variety of concerns related to orthopedic and pelvic floor pelvic health, including chronic pain, acute injury, sports injury, male and female urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, vaginismus (painful penetration), vulvodynia (pelvic pain) and coccydynia (coccyx pain). She uses a variety of techniques including manual therapy, acupuncture, education and home exercise programs.

    • Infant massage is a natural way to nurture and care for your baby. We tend to do it while holding them - without even thinking about it. Infant Massage classes teach a full body massage routine, the benefits of individual strokes, ways to communicate with your baby, and to have some very special time together.

      The health giving properties of Infant Massage include; growth and motor skill development, blood and lymph circulation, immune system stimulation, building bones, help with gas and colic, aid with deeper and longer sleep, emotional and physical bonding time.

      Facilitator, Brandie Lekovic, will lead you through individualized massage sessions. Sessions include massage oil and handouts. Classes are intended for babies who are pre crawling and provide lots of clever hints on carrying massage into the years to come. Brandie received her training with the International Association of Infant Massage.

      Cost of class is $75 for 4 sessions over 4 weeks, May 10th - May 31st.

    • Are you an exhausted parent that has tried everything and cannot get your baby to sleep? Do you want to find a solution that is not crying it out?

      We will be creating a space for parents to follow their instincts when it comes to their new baby, which will allow them to set the stage for optimal brain development. We want to spread the word that babies wake up through the night, and for good reason. We want to share the other side of the sleep story! We will address identifying individual and family needs, creating support systems and providing a safe place for parents to share stories that support evidence based sleep patterns. Bring your baby, have some tea and create community

      Babies are welcome and encouraged to attend class. Class will take place after OCEA's Infant Massage Class.

      • Your birth support team – The role of the Midwife, family Doctor, OB, Registered Nurse and Doula
      • Stages of labour
      • Comfort measures including relaxation and massage techniques
      • Breath awareness
      • All options for pain relief
      • Making decisions and giving consent
      • Methods of induction
      • Interventions including 1V’s, fetal heart monitors, cesarean sections
      • Post birth procedures for babies
      • Post birth recovery for women
      • Breastfeeding

      One day condensed classes are excellent for those who may not otherwise have time to take classes or work shift work. The focus of the one day class is on the role of your caregiver, stages of labour, options for pain management, interventions and breastfeeding resources. This class focuses on labour and birth, leaving you with reading resources for the postpartum time.   1. OCEA Prenatal One Day Condensed Class
    • Start time: 09:00am

    • The Ottawa Childbirth Education Association (OCEA) suggests you take your prenatal classes between 20 weeks and 36 weeks. Be sure to register early in your pregnancy in order to ensure a place is reserved for you. Class size is limited to a maximum of 8 couples. Classes include the following information presented in a variety of methods including videos, hands on practice, small group discussion and relaxation exercises:
      • Your birth support team – The role of the Midwife, family Doctor, OB, Registered Nurse and Doula
      • Stages of labour
      • Comfort measures including relaxation and massage techniques
      • Breath awareness
      • All options for pain relief
      • Making decisions and giving consent
      • Methods of induction
      • Interventions including 1V’s, fetal heart monitors, cesarean sections
      • Post birth procedures for babies
      • Post birth recovery for women
      • Breastfeeding

      One day condensed classes are excellent for those who may not otherwise have time to take classes or work shift work. The focus of the one day class is on the role of your caregiver, stages of labour, options for pain management, interventions and breastfeeding resources. This class focuses on labour and birth, leaving you with reading resources for the postpartum time. (Postpartum mood disorders, resources in town, family changes, and post birth recovery tips are not covered.)

      Cost is $140 (CAD) (per couple) and includes telephone and email contact with your instructor and free parking. Register at www.ottawacea.com

  1. Lisa Flanders- Registered Physiotherapist

    • Lisa Flanders is a Registered Physiotherapist with specialized training pertaining to pelvic floor physiotherapy. She completed a Bachelor of Arts as well as a Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of Manitoba prior to completing a Master of Science, Physical Therapy at Queen’s University.

      Lisa began her career in orthopedic physiotherapy, which she loves and continues to practice, but had a keen interest in pelvic floor physiotherapy. Following several post-graduate courses on pelvic floor physiotherapy, it became a passion for her. She realized many individuals have common concerns related to pelvic health but are often too embarrassed to seek advice, or are unaware that treatment is available. Her goal is to remove the stigma surrounding pelvic health concerns and work with individuals to identify and optimize their pelvic health and function .

      Lisa sees patients with a variety of concerns related to orthopedic and pelvic floor pelvic health, including chronic pain, acute injury, sports injury, male and female urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, vaginismus (painful penetration), vulvodynia (pelvic pain) and coccydynia (coccyx pain). She uses a variety of techniques including manual therapy, acupuncture, education and home exercise programs.

    • With over ten years as a full-time Doula, Pia Anderson brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to each labour. A certified Doula, Pia has attended hundreds of births in various settings. She provides birth and postpartum support, and is also a certified HypnoBirthing® Childbirth Educator, affiliated with the HB Institute. Pia has been teaching the HypnoBirthing® course in Ottawa since 2005, and she is passionate about working with women to help them discover the power and innate intelligence of their own bodies.
