Before the big day

We invite all families who are registered with a midwife to come take a tour of our space. The visit will give you a chance to get answers to any questions you may have, see the birthing suites in person, and meet members of the team who will help support the birth of your baby. Tours are generally offered twice per week; click here for more information and to book.

On the day

Women are admitted to the Ottawa Birth and Wellness Centre (OBWC) only when they’re in active labour. At this stage, your contractions will be about four minutes apart and last about a minute each. Your midwife will assess you over the phone or in person when you’ve had these contractions for about an hour, and will recommend that you make your way to the birth centre. When you arrive, a Birth Centre Aide will greet you, and, once your midwife has arrived, show you your birth suite and familiarize you with the facility.
